Abstract

This Technical Specification lists terms and definitions related to liposomes in the field of nanotechnologies. These terms are defined within the context of biological systems and biomedical applications. In this context, liposomes are one form of lipid-based nanomaterials. This document does not address terms that might be relevant to other types of lipid-based particles (e.g., solid lipid nanoparticles). It is intended to facilitate communications between organizations and individuals, including academic researchers, industry, regulatory agencies and other interested parties and those who interact with them. Additional terms and definitions that relate to the nano/bio interface and nanotechnologies related to diagnostics and therapeutics for healthcare are provided in ISO/TS 80004-5 and ISO/TS 80004-7, respectively.
