DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing
NA 062-10-101 AA
Nanotechnologies
NA 062-10-11 AA Technical Committee on “Nanotechnologies” is responsible for standardization covering one or both of the following aspects: i) Understanding and controlling the material properties and processes at the nanometer scale, typically, but not exclusively, below 100 nanometers in one or more dimensions, where size-dependent phenomena typically arise, enabling new applications; ii) Utilizing the unique properties of nanoscale materials—which differ from those of individual atoms, molecules, or macroscopic quantities of matter—to develop relevant innovative and advanced materials, products, devices, and systems that deliver new or improved performance characteristics and functions. Specific tasks include the development of standards for: classification, terminology, and nomenclature; metrology and testing facilities (including specifications for reference materials and traceability); test methods; modeling and simulation; health, safety, and environmental aspects, as well as life-cycle assessment; societal aspects, sustainable and responsible development; nanotechnology products and processes, quality control, and performance evaluation. Standards in each of these areas may relate to a product, a process, or an industrial sector, such as food, cosmetics, health, mobility, construction, energy, and electronics. The NA 062-10-101 AA Technical Committee is the mirror committee for the European CEN/TC 352 “Nanotechnologies” and the international ISO/TC 229 “Nanotechnologies.”
