DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing
CEN/TC 352
Nanotechnologies
Standardization in the field of nanotechnologies that includes either or both of the following: i. understanding and control of matter and processes at the nanoscale, typically, but not exclusively below 100 nanometers in one or more dimensions, where the onset of size dependent phenomena usually enables novel applications; ii. utilizing the unique properties of nanomaterials that differ from those of individual atoms, molecules or bulk matter, to create relevant innovative and advanced materials, products, devices and systems that exploit new or improved performance and functionalities. Specific tasks include developing standards for: classification, terminology and nomenclature; metrology and instrumentation (including specifications for reference materials and traceability); test methodologies; modelling and simulation; health, safety, environmental practices and life cycle assessment; societal dimension, sustainable and responsible development; nanotechnology products and processes, quality control and performance evaluation. Standards in each of these areas could be specific to a product, process or industrial sector as for example food, cosmetic, health, mobility, construction, energy and electronics.
