Advanced technical ceramics - Mechanical properties of monolithic ceramics at room temperature - Part 8: Guidelines for conducting proof tests; German version EN 843-8:2010

Title (German)

Hochleistungskeramik - Mechanische Eigenschaften monolithischer Keramik bei Raumtemperatur - Teil 8: Leitlinien zur Durchführung von Überlast-Prüfungen; Deutsche Fassung EN 843-8:2010

Overview

In this standard, requirements and methods for the proof testing of advanced technical ceramic components are specified. The standard provides a general guideline concerning the design of the test and the methodology for the selection of the loading conditions. The objective of the mechanical or thermo-mechanical proof test is to determine whether an individual component possesses adequate mechanical properties before it is to be used. The principle is to expose the object to be tested to a short-term stress, by which the stress level exceeds the expected operating conditions. Objects which do not pass this test are removed from the total population. The stress may be applied directly mechanically or as a result of a thermal stress, such as by a thermal shock test. The standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 184 "Hochleistungskeramik" ("Advanced technical ceramics") the secretariat of which is held by BSI (United Kingdom). The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 062-02-91 AA "Prüfung von Hochleistungskeramik - Monolithische Werkstoffe" ("Testing of advanced technical ceramics - Monolithic materials") at NMP.
