DIN Standards Committee Food and Agricultural Products

Overview

This document specifies requirements for the humane functioning of electrical equipment used to stun and/or kill farm animals intended for slaughter. This document also applies to electrical stunning equipment intended for herd clearance. Requirements are specified for - the suitability of the equipment (structural, technical, physical), - the technical equipment of the facility and its surroundings, - environmental factors, - minimum content of the operating instructions for proper use of the equipment, - regular inspection and monitoring of the equipment (theoretical and practical), - measuring and testing equipment, and specifications for measurement and testing. The document does not apply to the stunning of poultry in water baths, fish, and crustaceans. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 057-02-01-31 GAK "Gemeinschaftsarbeitskreis NAL/NAM: Technologien zur Betäubung und Tötung in der Schlachtung" ("Joint working group NAL/NAM: Slaughter stunning and killing technologies") at DIN Standards Committee Food and Agricultural Products (NAL).
