DIN Standards Committee Food and Agricultural Products

About NAL

The DIN Standards Committee Food and Agricultural Products is the body responsible for standardization in the food sector and the agricultural sector. The NAL develops standards on the following topics:

  • Sampling and testing of food, feed, cosmetics and tobacco products;
  • Food hygiene requirements for equipment and consumer goods and for the hygienic handling of food and food safety management systems;
  • disinfectant testing for food and animal husbandry applications;
  • Requirements, sampling and testing methods for fertilisers, soil improvers and growing media, biostimulants for plant application.

The standards developed for the sampling and analysis of food, feed, tobacco and tobacco products have been adopted – after approval by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) and the working groups installed by the BVL for the implementation of § 64 of the Food and Feed Code (LFGB), of § 38 of the Tobacco Products Act (TobakerzG) and § 28b of the Gene Technology Act (GenTG) - into the Official Collection of Test Procedures according to § 64 of the Food and Feed Code (LFGB), according to § 38 of the Tobacco Products Act (TobakerzG) and according to § 28b of the Gene Technology Act (GenTG). The national standards drawn up for food hygiene and food safety are - after examination and approval by the supreme state authorities - recognised as a guideline for good practice in accordance with Article 8 of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 and transmitted to the European Commission.
