Abstract
This specification describes methods for the sampling, sample preparation and characterization (identification, mass content, particle number, particle size) of microplastics (MP) in food. This specification does not apply to tap water. These methods have been established for microplastics of the sizes 1 μm to 1000 μm and large microplastics of sizes from 1 mm to 5 mm in food (sizes according to DIN CEN ISO/TR 21960). This document does not provide any information on the quality of the methods, as no method performance data (inter- and intra-laboratory comparison exercises) have been collected so far.
