DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing

Overview

This standard shall be applied to remote handling tongs which are primarily used to work with radioactive substances behind shielding walls. They are used as removable remote handling devices together with plug bushings (ball bushings) according to DIN 25407-2 in shielding walls in hot cells made of lead, if necessary with a contamination protection box. They can also be used without shielding walls if the distance provides sufficient protection. … The dimensions specified in this standard facilitate the planning and construction of hot cells in which remote handling tongs are used in accordance with this standard, and the interchangeability of the devices with one another. In addition, the delivery times should be shortened for the initial equipping of hot cells with remote handling tongs and the procurement of spare parts.
