Testing of solid and liquid fuels - Determination of gross calorific value by the bomb calorimeter and calculation of net calorific value
Abstract
This standard applies to the determination of the gross calorific value with the bomb calorimeter as well as the calculation of the net calorific value for solid fuels. The specifications can also be applied to other solid or liquid substances. The fuel sample is burnt in the calorimetric bomb under specified conditions. Due to the heat generated during combustion, the temperature of the calorimeter increases compared to its initial temperature. The temperature increase is measured. The measurement can be carried out in a calorimeter of "isoperibolic or static jacket" construction or under adiabatic conditions. The net calorific value is calculated from the (corrected) gross calorific value and elemental contents from the elemental analysis.
