Electrical properties of fresh and used greases from electric drives and wind turbines - Measurement of the specific electrical conductivity (κ), the specific electrical resistivity (ρ), the relative permittivity (εr) and the dielectric dissipation factor (tan δ)
Abstract
This document specifies a method for determining the specific electrical conductivity (κ) or the specific electrical resistance (ρ), the relative permittivity (εr) and the dielectric loss factor (tan δ) of lubricating greases. This document is applicable for measurements on unused and used greases from electric drives in vehicles and from wind turbines as well as on other lubricating greases with specific electrical conductivity in the nS/m range. This document can also be used for insulating greases. No precision data is available for this application. In contrast to the method according to DIN EN 60247 (VDE 0380-2) [1], measurements are made with low alternating voltage in order to determine conductivities in the nS/m range without feedback. The measuring ranges for greases and unadditivated insulating oils differ by several orders of magnitude. The laboratory blank value must be taken into account accordingly. In the case of insulating greases, it is often only possible to specify maximum values in accordance with section 9.
