Lubricants and related materials — Classification of lubricants - Part 3: Lubricating oils used predominantly in the automotive sector

Abstract

This document specifies the abbreviated designation of lubricating oils which are predominantly used in the automotive sector. The classification of the individual lubricant groups and the basic structure of the short designation for lubricating oils from the automotive sector in up to 3 designation blocks (A, B, C) is regulated in DIN 51502-1. This document also regulates the marking of packaging, containers, lubricant containers, lubrication equipment and lubrication points, so that damage due to confusion in the use of lubricants and related substances is avoided.
