Adhesives, rubber and cellular materials
NA 062-04 FBR coordinates standardization work in Technical Committee 4, “Adhesives, Rubber, Elastomers, and Polymer Foams.” The Technical Committee Advisory Board (FBR) establishes the framework program for the working committees in Technical Division 4, Adhesives, Rubber, Elastomers, and Polymer Foams, taking into account economic efficiency and the needs of the general public. The FBR decides on the establishment and organization of working committees, including their areas of activity. The FBR may review the appropriate composition of the working committees. Once the pending topics have been addressed, the FBR may place the working committees on hiatus or dissolve them. Furthermore, it oversees standards for which no active national working committee exists and initiates the appropriate steps. The technical division consists of the two subject areas “Adhesives” and “Rubber, Elastomers, and Polymer Foams.” The working committees in the “Adhesives” technical area address national, European, and international standardization projects dealing with requirements for adhesives used in floor coverings, wall and ceiling coverings, paper, packaging, and hygiene products; for electronic applications; for construction and structural adhesives; and for one-component foams, as well as methods for testing adhesive joints and core composites. The technical committees in the “Adhesives” technical area address national, European, and international standardization projects that deal with requirements for adhesives used in flooring, wall and ceiling coverings, paper, packaging, and hygiene products; for electronic applications; for construction and structural adhesives; and for one-component foams, as well as methods for testing adhesive bonds and core composites. The technical committees in the “Rubber, Elastomers, and Polymer Foams” technical area address national, European, and international standardization projects that deal with the testing of the physical properties of rubber, elastomers, and thermoplastic elastomers, raw materials (including latex) for elastomers, and soft-elastic and rigid polymer foams. The FBR does not conduct standardization work itself, but it coordinates current national, European, and international standardization efforts. It serves as the mirror body for CEN/TC 193, ISO/TC 45, and ISO/TC 61/SC 10, as well as their subcommittees and working groups that are not mirrored in other technical committees, and for specific projects of ISO/TC 61/SC 11/WG 5. It is also responsible for the flow of information with other DIN committees relevant to adhesives (e.g., FNK, NAVp, NHM, NAS, FSF, NABau). In addition, it identifies future standardization topics based on day-to-day operations and handles public relations.
