Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts - Particular applications for passenger and goods passenger lifts - Part 73: Behaviour of lifts in the event of fire; German version EN 81-73:2016

Title (German)

Sicherheitsregeln für die Konstruktion und den Einbau von Aufzügen - Besondere Anwendungen für Personen- und Lastenaufzüge - Teil 73: Verhalten von Aufzügen im Brandfall; Deutsche Fassung EN 81-73:2016

Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a “harmonized” standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (“presumption of conformity”). This standard specifies additional or deviating requirements to EN 81-20:2014 for passenger and goods passenger lifts to be newly installed. The additional or deviating requirements deal with the behavior of lifts in the event of fire. This is the revision of the EN 81-73:2005 edition and represents a complete revision of the standard, and reflects the further developments that have occurred since its publication in 2005 and the experience gained in its application. Consequently, most clauses have undergone some changes. The main changes are the following: Addition of a new informative Annex B for maintenance requirements; this standard incorporates the German version of EN 81-73:2016 prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 10 "Lifts, escalators and moving walks" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The standard differs from DIN EN 81-73:2005-08 as follows: a. the use of recall facilities, denote either a manual recall device or an automatic recall device, for example from a fire alarm system. b. changes in the assumptions that this European Standard includes further investigations; c. clarification that this European Standard can be applied when a recall facility is provided; d. modification of clauses addressing the recall facility, interface requirements, and destination stops (fire stops). Additionally, a designation of manual recall device; e. clarification that the fire control signal does not render the inspection control ineffective; f. modification of the reference of prohibition signs; g. modifications to the lift's behavior upon receipt of a recall signal and the requirements of an audible signal on the car during inspection control activation and an audible signal in the car when the doors are closed with the provision to disable door safety devices if the doors have not closed after a delay period; h. modifications to the behavior of the lift upon arrival at the destination stop (fire stop) and the requirements for audible and/or visual indicators and options when the car is parked with the doors closed or open; deletion of the requirements for a separate reset signal and for a "no access" indicator; the national interests during the preparation were represented by Committee NA 060-33-01 AA "Aufzüge" ("Lifts") of Technical Section Lifts and Escalators at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of lifts, and of employers' liability insurance associations have been involved in the preparation.
