Equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices - Elements of design

Title (German)

Atemschutz-Übungsanlagen - Planungsgrundlagen

Overview

Operating conditions are simulated in equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices, to train firefighters in the use of respiratory protective devices and full-body protective suits and to carry out exercises under respiratory protection with or without a full-body protective suit. It is a structure where typical fire brigade activities can be practised under respiratory protection and in chemical protective suits as well as the physical fitness of fire brigade members can be checked. The elements of design according to this standard shall enable architects, planners and administrative bodies to plan breathing exercise equipment usefully. Equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices may be planned coherently comprising several floors and/or components. If possible, it should be set up in connection with structures for the fire and disaster prevention to be able to use the available infrastructure. An informative Annex comprises a schematic representation of the rooms of equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices in a functional context (organisation and training sequence). The April 2014 edition of DIN 14093-1 has been revised in order to bring the requirements in line with the current state of the art. The standard differs from DIN 14093-1:2014-04 as follows: - monitoring the heart rates of participants has been omitted as this is regulated by the "Fire Brigades and Rescue Organizations" division of Technical Section "Fire Brigades, Rescue, and Fire Protection" (FBFHB) at German Social Accident Insurance [DGUV]; - ventilation requirements have been incorporated into the general technical requirements for rooms (Table 2); - separate changing rooms for men and women, equipped with lockers or lockable cabinets, are provided; - a room for follow-up has been included in conjunction with the preparation room; - the first-aid room has been renamed to the room for initial medical care; - the requirement to check a hot door for three different temperature zones has been removed for the target room; - several facilities have been designated as optional for the training room: - several temperature specifications have been replaced by a reference to ASR A3.5 in the general technical requirements for rooms (Table 2); - The floor in the control room no longer needs to be conductive (antistatic); - Figure A.1 in informative Annex A on the organization and sequence of exercises for equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices has been revised; - the content as a whole has been editorially revised. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 031-04-02 AA "Bauliche Anlagen und Einrichtungen" ("Constructional facilities equipment") at DIN Standards Committee Firefighting and Fire Protection (FNFW).
