Vehicles carrying tools and gears - Part 3: Emergency tender RW

Title (German)

Rüstwagen und Gerätewagen - Teil 3: Rüstwagen RW

Overview

This document specifies the requirements for the devices and built-in technical equipment of a rescue vehicle (RW) required in order to carry out virtually all types of technical rescue operations (including those on a larger scale), as well as for the chassis, body, equipment compartment, and firefighting equipment. The rescue vehicle is not an independent unit, instead it is typically deployed in conjunction with at least one water-carrying appliance. The rescue truck primarily covers the following areas of operation or performs the following tasks: - vehicle accidents and serious traffic accidents; - spilled fuels following traffic accidents; - rail accidents; - industrial and machinery accidents; - construction site accidents; - initial securing of civil engineering accident sites; - collapsed buildings; - simple rescues from heights and depths; - support during incidents involving hazardous materials; - technical assistance during major disaster response operations; - technical assistance during firefighting operations; - powering electrical equipment carried on the vehicle, for example during severe weather operations. A revision of the December 2016 edition of the standard became necessary in order to adapt the content of the standard to the current state of the art. As a result, the following significant changes were required: - the tasks of the rescue vehicle (RW) have been clarified in the Foreword; - the term "rescue vehicle" has been revised; - requirements for the chassis with regard to differential lock, cross water fording, trailer hitch, permissible towing capacity, and compressed air connection have been revised; - roof requirements have been removed; - requirements for technical equipment have been completely revised; - firefighting equipment requirements have been completely revised; - Annex A, containing explanations with regard to the compatibility of explosion-proof connectors, has been revised; - Annex C, containing explanations regarding lifting gear, has been revised; - updated bibliography; - the content has been editorially revised. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 031-04-07 AA "Sonstige Fahrzeuge" ("Other vehicles") at DIN Standards Committee Firefighting and Fire Protection (FNFW).
