The Smart City Standards Forum, or SCSF for short, is an initiative by DIN and DKE that focuses on developing and promoting standards and specifications for smart, connected, and sustainable communities. These are crucial for improving the use of new connected technologies and the efficiency of urban services in the municipal ecosystem. They raise the standard of living for residents and create more sustainable urban environments in which interoperability between different technologies and services is ensured.

Creating common standards for smart communities

The SCSF is a strategic information and networking platform that brings together experts from various fields, including city and local government, technology, businesses, science and associations, civil society, and technical regulators, to develop common standards and best practices. The aim is to facilitate the transition to smart urban infrastructures and ensure that new technological solutions are safe, efficient, and user-friendly.

The SCSF analyses ongoing Standardisation activities of the relevant standardization committees in the field of intelligent and sustainable communities and is closely connected with national committees. At SCSF meetings, we provide inspiration and a forum for discussion on current topics relating to smart communities. Together we identify new standardization potential and support the transfer of innovative ideas and solutions into standardization, for example by initiating and developing new Standards and specifications.

Publications by the Smart City Standards Forum

In preparation of new standardization projects, individual topics are also discussed in depth in themed workshops, and the results are recorded in impulse papers among other things. The current Impulse paper IV on cyber security in municipalities (Text in German) and all previous discussion papers in the series “Technology and People in Tomorrow's Municipalities” are available for download free of charge.
