DIN EN 14272
Plywood - Calculation method for some mechanical properties; German version EN 14272:2011

Title (German)

Sperrholz - Rechenverfahren für einige mechanische Eigenschaften; Deutsche Fassung EN 14272:2011

Overview

This European Standard specifies a calculation method for plywood to derive some mechanical properties (strength and stiffness in bending, tension, compression, panel and planar shear) as well as density. The properties of a panel are calculated from the properties of the wood species which compound the layers. For bending, tension and compression, each layer property value is weighted by a geometrical factor related to its weight in the panel cross section. With respect to DIN V ENV 14272:2002-12, the method now applies for plywood of any composition, symmetrical or not. Provided the structural characteristic values are taken for the layers, the resulting values for the panels can be used as characteristic values as required by EN 1995-1-1. Three annexes have been incorporated. Annex A describes the derivation of the values for mechanical properties of the veneers. Annex B contains practical spreadsheets for application of the equations developed in the main part of the standard. Annex C provides an example for the calculation of bending strength using the spreadsheets given in Annex B. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 042-02-15 AA "Holzwerkstoffe - Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 112 und ISO/TC 89" ("Wood-based panels - Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 112 and ISO/TC 89") at DIN.
