DIN EN 13557
Cranes - Control devices and control stations; German version EN 13557:2024

Title (German)

Krane - Stellteile und Steuerstände; Deutsche Fassung EN 13557:2024

Overview

This standard includes safety requirements. This standard specifies relevant requirements of Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for machines placed on the market for the first time in the European Economic Area (EEA) in order to facilitate the demonstration of conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). This standard specifies health and safety design requirements for control devices and control stations and their operating positions for all types of cranes. Specific requirements for particular types of cranes are given in the appropriate European Standard for the particular crane type. Control systems are dealt with in other standards, for example in EN 60204-32:2008 and EN 13135:2013+A1:2018. This document does not deal with noise hazards because these are dealt with in safety standards for specific types of cranes. It also does not address the design of the cabin with regard to its sound insulation properties. This document covers specific hazards which could occur during the use of control devices and control stations. It does not cover hazards which could occur during transport, construction, modification, de-commissioning, or disposal. The hazards covered by this standard are described in Clause 4. This document is valid from the date of adoption of this standard by CEN. This document (EN 13557:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 147 "Cranes - Safety", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. The standard differs from DIN EN 13557:2009-07 as follows: - the normative references have been updated; - the "list of significant hazards and associated requirements" in Annex A has been reviewed and moved; - Table 2 (now Table 1) and Table A.1 have been revised; - Annex ZA has been revised; - the chapters have been restructured. The national interests during the preparation of the standard were represented by Committee NA 060-22-10 AA "Lenkungsausschuss Krane und Hebezeuge" ("Steering committee cranes and lifting equipment") and NA 060-22-10-22 AK "Konstruktion, Ausrüstungen (SpA CEN/TC 147/WG 3)" ("Design - requirements for equipment") (SpA CEN/TC 147/WG 3) at Technical Section "Krane und Hebezeuge" ("Cranes and lifting equipment") at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of "cranes and lifting equipment" as well as of professional and trade associations were involved in the preparation of this standard.
