DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering

Overview

This standard specifies relevant requirements of Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for machines placed on the market for the first time in the European Economic Area (EEA) in order to facilitate the demonstration of conformity with these requirements. This document specifies safety requirements for the design and construction of calenders intended for processing rubber or plastic. This document applies only to calenders, including all components attached to their frames. This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events relevant to the design and construction of calenders, when the machines are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This document does not deal with: - hazards generated by the processing of explosive materials, or materials which give rise to an explosive atmosphere; - hazards due to laser or ionizing radiation; - hazards generated if the calender is installed in an explosive atmosphere. This document contains the German version of FprEN 12301:2017 prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 145 "Plastics and rubber machines" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 12301:2010 as follows: a) the Scope has been extended to cover also two-roll calenders forming an integral unit with an extruder (roller head) and two or three-roll polishing, laminating or embossing units installed downstream of extruders in film processing lines; b) the structure has been modified; c) the list of significant hazards has been moved to an informative annex in accordance with CEN Guides 414:2014; d) technical developments in safeguards have been taken into account; e) requirements for the braking system and roll separation have been updated; f) addition of a normative annex on noise measurement and noise information; g) revised type-A and type-B standards have been taken into account; h) the performance levels of safety-related parts of control systems have been specified in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1:2008; National interests in preparation of the standard have been represented by the Committee NA 060-60-14 AA "Kalander" ("Calenders") in Technical Section "Plastics and rubber machines" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of calenders as well as the employers' liability insurance associations were involved in the preparation.
