DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering

Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). This part of ISO 8528 specifies the safety requirements for reciprocating internal combustion (RIC) engine driven generating sets up to 1 000 V consisting of an RIC engine, an alternating current (AC) generator including the additional equipment required for operating, such as controlgear, switchgear, auxiliary equipment. It is applicable to generating sets for land and marine use (domestic, recreational and industrial application). It is not applicable to generating sets used on board of seagoing vessels and mobile offshore units as well as on aircraft or to propel road vehicles and locomotives. This part of ISO 8528 does not apply to arc welding equipment (IEC 60974 series). The special requirements needed to cover operation in potentially explosive atmospheres are not covered in this part of ISO 8528. The hazards relevant to RIC engine driven generating sets are identified in Annex A. This part of ISO 8528 deals with the special requirements of test and safety design which should be observed in addition to the definitions and requirements in ISO 8528-1, ISO 8528-2, ISO 8528-3, ISO 8528-4, ISO 8528-5 and ISO 8528-6, where applicable. It specifies safety requirements in order to protect the user from danger. This standard contains the German version of EN ISO 8528-13:2016 prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 70 "Internal combustion engines" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 270 "Internal combustion engines" within the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 12601:2011-07 as follows: a) in Clause, the definitions have been extended; b) in Clause 6, the safety requirements have been extended by additional test methods; c) in Subclause 6.2, the safety requirements have been extended and revised; d) Subclause 6.4.1 has been extended and revised with reference to ISO 12100; e) in Subclause 6.5, the safety requirements for control devices have been extended and revised; f) in Subclause 6.6, the safety requirements for monitoring devices have been extended and revised; g) in Subclause 6.7, the safety requirements for warning devices have been extended and revised; h) Subclause 6.8.1.1 has been extended and revised with reference to ISO 14120; i) in Subclause 6.8.2, the safety requirements for guarding against mechanical hazards have been extended and revised; j) in Subclause 6.8.3, the safety requirements for guarding against hot surfaces have been extended and revised; k) in Subclause 6.8.9, the requirements for stability have been revised; l) in Subclause 6.12, an additional clause on "Mechanical strength" has been added; m) in Subclause 6.14, the safety requirements have been extended and revised; n) in Subclause 6.15, the safety requirements for electrical equipment have been extended and revised; o) Subclause 6.18.1 has been extended and revised with reference to ISO 15534-2; p) Clause 8 has been extended and revised; q) Annex ZA (informative) "Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC" has been included. The national interests during preparation of this standard were represented by Committee NA 060-10-10 AA "Lenkungsausschuss Verbrennungsmotoren" ("Internal combustion engines") at Technical Section "Power systems" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of engines and systems are involved in the preparation of the standard.
