DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering

Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called "presumption of conformity").This standard gives details of a test procedure for packings to be used to seal the stuffing boxes of centrifugal pumps. It gives provisions on the design of test equipment, standard test parameters and reporting criteria. It does not specify performance criteria which should be agreed between supplier and customer, but does define 3 tightness classes. When necessary, this European Standard is also applicable to packings used on other rotary equipment such as mixers and agitators. It contains the German version of EN 16752:2015 prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 197 "Pumps" in the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The national interests during the preparation were represented by Working Committee NA 060-11-01 AA "Kreiselpumpen" ("Centrifugal pumps") of Technical Section "Pumpen" ("Pumps") of the Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of pumps, and of the employers' liability insurance associations were involved in the preparation.
