DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering

Overview

The standard establishes general principles and specifies requirements for the design and testing of pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive floors normally actuated by the feet for use as protective devices for protecting persons from hazardous machinery. The minimum safety requirements for the performance, marking and documentation are given. This part of ISO 13856 is applicable to pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive floors, regardless of the type of energy used (for example electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical), designed to detect persons (for example children) weighing more than 20 kg and persons weighing more than 35 kg. The dimensions and configuration of the effective sensing area of pressure-sensitive mat(s) or pressure-sensitive floor(s) in relation to any particular application are not specified. During the revision of this standard necessary adaptations to control standard DIN EN ISO 13849-1 have primarily been made. The International Standard on which this standard is based has been prepared according the Vienna Agreement by Working Group 9 "Pressure-sensitive protective devices" of ISO/TC 199 "Safety of machinery", in collaboration with CEN/TC 144 of the same name (all secretariats: DIN) and replaces the previous DIN EN 1760-1. The responsible German standardization committee is Joint Working Committee "Schaltmatten, Schaltplatten, Schaltleisten" ("Pressure-sensitive protective devices") (NA 095-01-02 GA) of the Safety Design Principles Standards Committee (NASG) with the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM).
