DIN EN 13135-2
Cranes - Equipment - Part 2: Non-electrotechnical equipment; German version EN 13135-2:2004+A1:2010

Title (German)

Krane - Ausrüstungen - Teil 2: Nicht-elektrotechnische Ausrüstungen; Deutsche Fassung EN 13135-2:2004+A1:2010

Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. This modified standard deals with the machine-specific significant hazards, describes the associated safety requirements and/or safety measures and the requirements for the information for use. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard supersedes DIN EN 13135-2:2005-02. This document specifies requirements for design and selection of non-electrotechnical equipment for all types of crane with the objectives of protecting personnel from hazards affecting their lives and health and of ensuring reliability of function. The fixed load lifting attachments are integral part of the crane and therefore belong also to the scope of this standard. Non-electrotechnical equipment comprises: - structure and structural equipment; - driving mechanisms; - rope and chain drives; - fixed load lifting attachments; - safety devices; - fluid power systems. Hazards due to noise are not covered by this standard. They are addressed in safety standards specific to each type of crane. The principles to be applied for cranes transporting hazardous loads are given in this standard. Particular requirements are given for cranes transporting hot molten metal. This standard does not give the additional requirements for: - equipment requiring a high level of cleanliness for hygiene reasons, for example, in direct contact with foodstuffs or pharmaceuticals; - equipment operating in clean rooms with a dust controlled environment, (for example, satellite assembling room, electronic industry, food processing, pharmaceuticals processing); - hazards resulting from handling explosives and radiating material; - hazards caused by operation subject to special regulations (for example, explosive atmospheres); - the risk related to lifting of persons. The following significant modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 13135-2:2006-11 Amendment 1: a) the standards in clause 2, normative references and the associated modifications in the document have been updated, b) 5.10.2, protection against hot parts due to operation has been modified; c) an informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been included.
