Involute splines based on reference diameters - Part 16: Tools
Abstract
The DIN 5480 series of standards covers requirements for mating gears and mating gear connections in the ranges from module 0.5 to 10, tooth counts 6 to 82, and with an angle of contact of 30°. It is limited to a contact angle of 30°, while contact angles of 37.5° and 45° are also included in the DIN ISO 4156 series of standards. Interlocking gear teeth with involute flanks according to the DIN ISO 4156 series of standards are based on module series. These are not interchangeable with the gear teeth according to the DIN 5480 series of standards. The DIN 5480 series of standards is based on stepped reference diameters that are independent of the module. This allows for optimal adaptation to the standardized roller bearing diameters and a reduction in the variety of tools. This document specifies the essential design features of rolling tools (hobs, cutting wheels), broaching tools, and cold rolling tools for flank-centered gear tooth connections. It applies to gear teeth with involute flanks and reference diameters according to DIN 5480-1 and DIN 5480-2.
