Industrial trucks - Additional requirements for automated functions on trucks (ISO/DIS 24134:2026); German and English version prEN ISO 24134:2026

Abstract

This document provides safety requirements and the means for their verification for the following automated functions of self-propelled industrial trucks as defined in ISO/DIS 3691-1 (hereafter referred to as trucks) and sequenced automated functions thereof: — Traction Creep — Lift/lower to/from Travel Height — Lift to Height — Ergonomic Fork Height — Steer by Wire Guidance — Tilt to Level — Steer for Operation with Remote Travel Controls. This document deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events during all phases of the life of the truck (see ISO 12100:2010, 5.4), as listed in Annex D, relevant when trucks are used as intended or under reasonably foreseeable misuse. This document is applicable to trucks while operating in manual mode only and to trucks designed for multiple modes when operated in manual mode. For automated functions not listed above, 4.1 can be used as guidance for the specification of their safety requirements. This document does not provide requirements for assistance functions. This document does not apply to: — rough‑terrain trucks (ISO 5053-1:2020, 3.7); — non‑stacking low‑lift straddle carriers (ISO 5053-1:2020, 3.18); — stacking high‑lift straddle carriers (ISO 5053-1:2020, 3.19); — rough‑terrain variable reach trucks (ISO 5053-1:2020, 3.21); — slewing rough‑terrain variable‑reach trucks (ISO 5053-1:2020, 3.22); — lorry‑mounted trucks (ISO 5053-1:2020, 3.26); — driverless trucks (ISO 5053-1:2020, 3.32) operating in modes other than manual mode; NOTE 1 Table B.1 provides a cross reference between the nomenclature of industrial trucks as specified in ISO 5053-1:2020 and the nomenclature used in this document. This document does not apply to: — manually operated functions; — performance limitation functions; — autonomous functions; — stop functions; — indication functions — automated functions without significant hazards. NOTE 2 see Annex E for more information about automated functions without significant hazards. This document does not provide requirements for hazards related to: — steering by direct mechanical guidance e.g. rails. This document is not applicable to trucks manufactured before the date of publication. Limitations in the scope of the applicable parts of ISO 3691 series also apply to this document, therefore the set of applicable requirements are defined by the combination of this document and ISO/DIS 3691-1, ISO 3691-2:2023, ISO 3691-3:2016/Amd 1:2023 and ISO 3691-6:2021, as relevant.
