Abstract
The purpose of an electrically controlled hold-open system is to reliably hold self-closing fire/smoke barriers in the open position and, in the event of a fire, to trigger the system as early as possible and allow the barriers to close automatically, without, however, triggering an alarm signal that is relayed to the fire department. This distinguishes the required function of fire detectors from their typical use in fire alarm systems. This document is intended to standardize the maintenance of hold-open systems and thus provide a basis for operators and maintenance personnel for the maintenance of hold-open systems for fire and/or smoke protection barriers. Carrying out maintenance measures in accordance with the specifications of this document ensures that hold-open systems with documented acceptance testing maintain their functionality throughout their entire service life when used and operated as intended. For hold-open systems, documented acceptance tests are required by building codes or specified in the relevant applicability certificates. This document establishes requirements for the inspection and routine maintenance of electrically controlled hold-open systems for fire and smoke barriers in buildings. In addition, requirements for the provision of secure remote services are specified. This document does not apply to the maintenance of the door assemblies themselves. This document does not apply to the acceptance testing of hold-open systems for building openings required in the building authority's certificate of applicability for the hold-open system. This document does not apply to electrically controlled hold-open systems in accordance with DIN EN 14637.
