Textiles - Circular economy for textile products - Minimum durability requirements - Part 2: Workwear

Abstract

This document identifies minimum physical durability requirements and recommendations for workwear garments for circular economy in the textiles chain, based upon their intended use. This includes trims and fabrics to produce workwear garments. Workwear is exposed to intensive wear and tear and soiling, and therefore needs frequent care and maintenance to ensure that protection, comfort, style, image and hygiene properties continue to be provided over the entire lifetime of the garment. This document is applicable to all types of clothing designed for the workplace or specific professions, provided by the employer, or purchased privately to be used in professional context. Examples include general purpose workwear intended to prevent personal clothing or undergarments from soiling at the workplace to occupational clothing and uniforms. This document does not apply to personal protective equipment (PPE), medical devices (e.g. gowns), occupational clothing for product protection (clean room, electrostatic protected area (EPA)), swimwear, sportswear and accessories like gloves, scarfs, ties and hats.
