Schiffe und Meerestechnik - Echolote für die Schifffahrt (ISO 9875:2000 + Cor. 1:2006); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 9875:2001 + AC:2011

Overview

The echo-sounder aids determination of the depth of the water underneath the keel of a ship. Depth-sounding systems in accordance with this standard work with the method of pulse reflection. From the duration between the transmission and reception pulse, the distance between the transmitter and the reflecting object can be calculated at known pulse speed (here: the speed of sound in water). The minimum operational and performance requirements to be established for the use of systems of this nature on ships are specified in Document A.224(VII) of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). This standard provides the IMO and additional requirements as well as the ambient conditions that are required to be met by the echo-sounding equipment. Systems for marine use shall be capable of measuring water depths of 2 m up to 200 m and shall be able to represent these in two indicating ranges (shallow and deep).
