VG 96914-2
Luminaires for lighting and special purposes - Part 2: Special requirements and test methods, generic standard; Text in German and English

Title (German)

Leuchten für Beleuchtungs- und Sonderzwecke - Teil 2: Besondere Anforderungen und Prüfungen, Fachgrundnorm; Text Deutsch und Englisch

Overview

This generic standard is applicable in connection with DIN EN 60598-1 (VDE 0711-1) for luminaires for application on vessels and includes additional or deviating requirements and tests. On marine vessels, the vast majority of luminaires for lighting purposes are in continuous operation without interruption. Due to the fact that a corresponding requirement was not included in the 2009 edition and during failure or excessive temperature rise the safety of persons and objects is affected, a revision has been agreed upon before the expiration of the usual 5-year period. The requirement "Continuous operation" was to be added, including the associated test, and the requirement for the electrical life has been raised. Furthermore, the opportunity was taken to include a new clause "Designation" and to revise the specifications for marking and packaging. The responsible committee is Working Committee NA 132-03-09 AA "Beleuchtungstechnik für Schiffe" ("Illumination engineering") of the Shipbuilding and Marine Technology Standards Committee (NSMT).
