Cable installations on vessels — Connection and repair — Part 3: Fiber optic cables and data transmission cables
Abstract
This document specifies how and with which tools and components the connection and repair of installed power cables and telecommunication cables according to parts 27, 28 and parts 60 to 66 of the series VG 95218 shall be performed. It is mainly applicable to vessels of the German Navy. This standard is also applicable to work carried out to extend an existing electric cable system and for comparable halogen-free and halogen-containing electrical cables. This standard does not apply to special cables. Connection and repair work on special cables shall be agreed upon with the manufacturer and the respective system supplier. This standard does not apply to connections and repair work on submarine vessels outside of the pressure hull, the upper-deck areas of surface vessels, or in bunkers, tanks and cells. A cable which has been repaired according to this standard can show deviating electrical and mechanical characteristics in comparison with an intact cable.
