Testing of paper and board - Determination of plybond resistance
Abstract
This document describes a method for determining the splitting resistance (SW). Splitting resistance refers to the resistance of a material to splitting by tensile forces perpendicular to the sheet plane, whereby the tensile forces are not evenly distributed over the sample. Such stresses occur, for example, due to ink splitting forces in the offset printing process or in processing machines. The splitting resistance is specified as a length-related force. It must be distinguished from the splitting strength (strength in the z-direction), which is an area-related force (stress). The method can be used to test single or multi-ply paper, cardboard and paperboard as well as composite materials with splitting resistances between 2kN/m and 5kN/m.
