Abstract
This document describes a test method for immunity to disturbance of transmitting and/or receiving systems to the effects of exo-NEMP and lightning. Objective of this document is the verification of the protection targets for antenna terminals of transmitting and/or receiving systems including related matching devices and protection circuits against exo-NEMP and lightning disturbances coupled via antennas connected to them. As objective relating to NEMP, especially equipment protection, i.e. protection against disturbance/destruction of transmitting/receiving systems in case of NEMP-coupling via antenna terminals is considered. In addition to equipment protection, the assessment of personal protection within fixed transmitting/receiving systems is also referred to from the perspective of lightning protection. However, testing according to the presented document does not automatically guarantee NEMP- and lightning protection including personal protection of the entire transmitting/receiving system within a system/platform. It is pointed out that the primary protection objective can be possibly achieved despite destruction of certain components. This applies, in particular, to lightning disturbances, where, e.g. in case of direct strikes to antennas, both the antennas and the protective circuits can be destroyed without affecting the protection objective (personal protection, protection of transmitting/receiving system). By the lightning-related tests according to 5.3, the energetic load due to the NEMP is also adequately considered. On the other hand, by the test with the fast rise time of the NEMP-effect, the fast rise time of the lightning effect according to test method LF 72 according to VG 96903-72 is considered to be taken into account.
