Lifesaving in water and safety equipment

The working committee NA 112-04-04 AA "Lifesaving in water and safety equipment" of the Sports Equipment Standards Committee is responsible for the standardisation of "protective equipment" for sports and leisure activities but also for working and lifesaving in, at and on water. Under this category fall e. g. buoyant aids for swimming instruction, deck safety harnesses and lines, quick release systems for trapeze harnesses, constant wear suits, liferafts, lifejackets and buoyancy aids. Most of the safety standards are listed in the Directory 1 of GPSG (law for safety of equipment and products). Important aspects of the standardisation of "Lifesaving in water and safety equipment" are e. g. safety requirements, test methods and marking. Germany also holds the secretariat of the European and the international working group CEN/TC 162/WG 6 "Lifejackets" and ISO/TC 188/WG 14 "Personal safety equipment" and nominates its convenor. Delegates of this committee represent the German standardisation interests on European and international level, respectively.
