Overview

The aim of the metrological methods described in DIN SPEC 45673-3 is the determination of the insertion loss as a quantity for the vibration mitigating effect of resilient elements of mounted track systems. These metrological methods (with artificial excitation) can be carried out with mounted resilient elements both in a laboratory and in situ. The methods described for the in situ measurement can generally also be used for measurements under railway vehicle excitation. With the determined insertion loss permits a relative comparison of resilient elements with regard to their vibration mitigating effect in the track in the frequency range between about 10 Hz and 200 Hz, but certainly between 20 Hz and 100 Hz. The described methods with artificial excitation cannot yet be standardized since a comprehensive verification of the in situ measurement results with artificial excitation compared with measurements under railway vehicle excitation is still pending. However, a relative comparison of the results with similar excitation is often possible. Nevertheless, a uniform basis is specified by the description of the methods of this DIN SPEC to be able to gain further experience on this basis. This DIN SPEC has been prepared by Working Committee NA 001-03-15 AA (NALS/VDI C 15) "Schwingungsminderung in der Umgebung von Verkehrswegen" ("Mitigation of vibration in the vicinity of traffic routes"). Together with DIN V 45673-4 covering the construction of the insertion loss of mounted track systems it forms part of the series of standards DIN 45673 on resilient elements used in railway tracks, aiming at the reduction of the vibrations (vibrations and structure-borne noise) generated by the railway transport. Compared to DIN V 45673-3:2004-09, the following modifications have been made: a) further methods for the measurement with artificial excitation introduced; b) differentiation of the methods for measurements in a laboratory or in situ; c) distinction of insertion loss for the different measurement situations.
