Overview
Exposure to impulsive whole-body vibration (whole-body vibration) affecting people in a seated physical position can occur, for instance, while driving on very uneven ground during operations on cranes, construction machinery and forestry machinery. Impairments to the lumbar spine area dominate the health risks. This DIN SPEC describes how a dose for internal strain on the lumbar spine can be determined from the exposure data, and provides a method for evaluation of the resulting strain. It applies for exposures with multiple mechanical shocks measured at the interfaces between the seated user and the seat or operating elements. The method is only suitable for operations in seated physical position. The calculation method, including an introduction, is made available on CD and only requires standard software (spreadsheet program). This DIN SPEC has been prepared in NA 001-03-07-01 (NALS/VDI C 7.1) "Ganzkörper-Schwingungen" ("Whole-body vibration") of the Acoustics, Noise Control and Vibration Engineering Standards Committee (NALS).
