Overview

Unless lifts and/or buildings are properly planned and/or built, switching, accelerating, travelling, and decelerating of lifts causes noise that is transmitted into rooms requiring protection (occupied areas), where it may lead to disturbance or annoyance. This guideline covers this area of responsibility for lifts with a machine room and includes: - reference values for the noise emission in the machine room (airborne and structure-borne sound levels), in front of landing doors, in the well, and in the car, - recommendations for sound insulation in the building (airborne and structure-borne-sound insulations) aiming at complying with the permissible noise-exposure values in rooms requiring protection (occupied areas), - planning aids for the structure-borne-sound insulated mounting of equipment, and - guidance for the measurement of noise emission and noise exposure in occupied areas, and of sound insulation in completed systems and buildings. With respect to the previous edition from December 2001, the quoted documents have been updated and editorial adjustments, but no technical changes, have been made. This guideline is intended for use by architects, construction engineers, acoustics engineers, manufacturers and suppliers of lifts, and building owners. Experience has shown that the desired sound insulation can only be reached in shared responsibility. This guideline has been technically prepared by NA 001-02-03-05 AK and has been checked and released for publication by the superordinate committee, NA 001-02-03 AA.
