DIN Standards Committee Principles of Environmental Protection
Energy management systems and energy savings - Decarbonization - Requirements with guidance for use
Abstract
This standard specifies requirements and provides guidance for organizations to develop and implement a transition pathway for reducing energy-related greenhouse gas emissions (ERGE). It supports organizations in establishing decarbonization targets for energy use, systematically planning emission reduction actions, and demonstrating their effectiveness. The standard describes a performance-based approach to decarbonizing energy consumption and can be used in conjunction with energy management systems, particularly those based on EN ISO 50001, as well as existing greenhouse gas quantification methodologies. It enables the validation of decarbonization plans and the verification of achieved emission reductions. The application of this standard helps organizations implement energy and climate objectives in a transparent and traceable manner and demonstrate progress in reducing energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.
