Abstract
This document specifies a method for the quantitative determination of total uronic acid content by high performance anion exchange chromatography coupled with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD) after acid hydrolysis of samples for seaweed and seaweed products. It specifies a method for the determination of mannuronic, glucuronic and guluronic acids in brown seaweed and of mannuronic and guluronic acids in alginate products in a single analysis. The sum of the values for the individual uronic acids is used to determine the total uronic acid content.
