DIN Standards Committee Optics and Precision Mechanics

Overview

The standard specifies procedures for the selection of test methods, preparation of samples, and conduct of testing for the uptake and release of preservatives from contact lenses. It addresses primarily the manufacturers of contact lenses and contact lens care products and facilities performing such tests on behalf of the aforementioned manufacturers. With respect to the previous edition of the standard, the specifications for performing the test are concretized with regard to the number and the point of time of the individual specifications to be supplied. The same applies to the interpretation and expression of results in the test report. With regard to the types of contact lens materials to be taken into account in a test, the recommendation of including silicone hydrogel lenses has been added. The standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 172/SC 7 "Ophthalmic optics and instruments" (secretariat: DIN, Germany). The responsible Working Committee at DIN is NA 027-01-08 AA "Augenoptik" ("Ophthalmic optics"), Working Group "Ophthalmische Instrumente" ("Ophthalmic instruments") of NAFuO.
