DIN Standards Committee Optics and Precision Mechanics

About NAFuO

The DIN Standards Committee for Precision Mechanics and Optics (NAFuO) is responsible for standardization in

  • precision mechanics - including in healthcare technology,
  • microsystems technology,
  • optics and photonics
  • as well as jewellery and horology.

The NAFuO also covers the biological evaluation and clinical investigation of medical devices, and tissue engineering. In the field of personal protective equipment, it is responsible for the standardization of personal eye protection, respiratory protective devices and diving equipment.

Most of the documents developed by the NAFuO are "harmonized" European Standards which give detail to the essential safety requirements laid down in European Directives. These harmonized standards are essential for placing products to the European market.

The Committee also aims at making as many standards as possible available at international level to reflect the global nature of these markets and to promote the global harmonization of approval procedures, particularly in the medical devices sector.

The NAFuO monitors all current developments in its areas of activity and is very open to new technologies and trends.

Feel free to contact us any time if you see the need to standardize a particular subject.

Your way to NAFuO

Main station (Hauptbahnhof), approx. 15 minutes walking distance to Alexander-Wellendorff-Straße. Leave the station platform and take Exit West towards city (Schmuckwelten). In the pedestrian underpass please keep left and follow the Bahnhofstraße continuing into the Leopoldstraße up to the bridge. After the bridge turn right and continue along the Jörg-Ratgeb-Straße, cross the street on to the Turnplatz. The DIN office is located to the right of the Wellendorff company. Taxi approx. 7 minutes, ca. 8 €.

Alternatively take the bus line 2 to Sonnenhof or line 8 to Rodrücken, approx. 10 minutes. Get off the bus at ”Turnplatz“ and cross the parking.

Coming from the autobahn A8 please take junction Pforzheim Nord (exit No 44). Continue along B294 (follow Heinrich-Wieland-Allee, Hohenzollernstraße, Christophallee) heading for the city centre. After passing the main railway station, turn off the B294 onto the Luisenstraße towards Brötzingen (i. e. at the petrol station ”Jet“ keep left). At the next set of lights turn left and follow the Berliner Straße up to the bridge. After the bridge turn right onto the Turnplatz. It is possible (except on Wednesdays) to park directly on the Turnplatz (parking fee).

The DIN office is located to the right of the Wellendorff company. Please note, if you use a navigation system, Turnplatz should be entered as destination, not Alexander-Wellendorff-Straße 2.

Free parking is available on the Messplatz. Please follow the corresponding inner city road signs.

From there, it is a 10 minute walk along the Enz (downstream direction) to the DIN Office.
