Orthotics — Functional testing of orthoses for the lower extremities (AFOs)
Abstract
This document defines requirements and test procedures for the functional evaluation and determination of the structural strength of orthoses for the lower limbs (AFOs). It defines procedures for functional tests, fatigue strength tests and static minimum and ultimate strength tests under reproducible laboratory conditions. This document applies to series-produced orthoses and for custom-made orthoses insofar as the test can be conducted with a standardised test dummy. This document does not apply to knee-ankle-foot orthoses, knee orthoses, hip orthoses, prostheses or orthotic components that are not an integral part of the AFO. Clinical performance evaluation, patient-specific biomechanical analyses and biocompatibility aspects are not included in this document. Deviations from the test conditions specified in this document are only permissible if they are justified by the manufacturer and documented in the test report.
