DIN EN 15663
Railway applications - Vehicle reference masses; German version EN 15663:2017
Bahnanwendungen - Fahrzeugreferenzmassen; Deutsche Fassung EN 15663:2017
Overview
This document is the generic standard for the reference masses of rail vehicles. To define the design, testing and operation of vehicles in general and their main constituent parts, it is necessary to clearly specify the associated states of loading. This European Standard provides such a set of vehicle reference masses and describes how each is derived. The aim of this document is to define the following reference masses for determining the requirements for design, testing, customer acceptance, marking, delivery and operation of railway vehicles: the dead mass, the design mass in working order as well as the design mass under normal and exceptional payload, the operational mass with normal payload and the operational mass in working order. These reference masses apply to the whole vehicle, but they can also apply to a specific system or component. Tolerances are not covered by this standard, but may be required in corresponding application standards. The main changes with respect to the previous edition EN 15663:2009 are: general editorial reordering of clauses and text, a clause for abbreviations, further definitions in application standards, new requirements for standing areas in gangways and treatment of wheelchair loadings, an Annex B for application of EN 15663 reference masses in other European Standards and an annex for their application in TSI. This standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive 2008/57/EC.
