Railway applications - Track - Aluminothermic welding of rails - Part 1: Approval of welding processes; German version EN 14730-1:2006+A1:2010

Title (German)

Bahnanwendungen - Oberbau - Aluminothermisches Schweißen von Schienen - Teil 1: Zulassung der Schweißverfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 14730-1:2006+A1:2010

Overview

The standard EN 14730 "Railway applications - Track - Aluminothermic welding of rails" consists of two parts: - Part 1: Approval of welding processes; - Part 2: Qualification of aluminothermic welders, approval of contractors and acceptance of welds and has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 256 "Railway applications", the secretariat of which is held by DIN (Germany). The responsible German Committee is NA 087-00-01-01 UA "Schienenschweißen" ("Welding of railways") of the Railway Standardization Committee (FSF). This document DIN EN 14730-1 is the consolidated version of DIN EN 14730-1:2006 and Amendment A1:2010. The following changes have been made with respect to DIN EN 14730-1:2006-10: a) In Annex C, clauses C.1 through C.6, the "reject level" has been replaced by "calibration sensitivity" and the action level during a defect signal has been added. b) A new clause C.7 "Calibration" has been added; it describes the calibration block. The positioning of the flat bottomed hole is specified by the newly added Figure C.1. c) In K.3.5.2, Formula K.1, dividend 2 has been corrected to dividend 4 according to the "Wheatstone" bridge circuit shown in Figure K.3. This standard defines the approval procedure for aluminothermic welding processes on rails through laboratory tests of welds produced in a workshop. This laboratory approval will provide the railway authority with sufficient information for tests in the track if required. This standard defines laboratory tests and requirements for approval of an aluminothermic welding process using welds of vignole rails (according to DIN EN 13674-1) of the same profile and steel grade produced under workshop conditions. Compliance with the requirements of this standard does not itself ensure the suitability of a welding process for specific conditions of track and traffic. The standard does not cover welds made between different rail sections, differently worn rails and different rail guides.
