DIN EN ISO 4892-2
Plastics - Methods of exposure to laboratory light sources - Part 2: Xenon-arc lamps (ISO 4892-2:2013); German version EN ISO 4892-2:2013

Title (German)

Kunststoffe - Künstliches Bestrahlen oder Bewittern in Geräten - Teil 2: Xenonbogenlampen (ISO 4892-2:2013); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 4892-2:2013

Overview

This part of ISO 4892 specifies methods for exposing specimens to xenon-arc light in the presence of moisture to reproduce the weathering effects (temperature, humidity and/or wetting) that occur when materials are exposed in actual end-use environments to daylight or to daylight filtered through window glass. Specimens are exposed to filtered xenon-arc light under controlled environmental conditions (temperature, humidity and/or wetting). In order to meet different requirements, various types of xenon-arc lights and various filter combinations can be used. Specimen preparation and evaluation of the results are covered in other International Standards for specific materials. General guidance is given in ISO 4892-1. Xenon-arc exposures of paints and varnishes are described in ISO 11341. This standard differs from DIN EN ISO 4892-2:2009-11 as follows: a) in 4.4, a sentence has been included that the preferred maximum surface temperature device is the black-standard thermometer; b) in Table 3, Method A, cycles no. 3 and 4 have been deleted; c) all cycles where the chamber temperature and relative humidity are not controlled, have been transferred to Annex B (normative) (Table B.1, black-standard temperature and Table B.2, black-panel temperature); d) in Table B.2, 2 cycles with increased black-standard temperature have been included; e) Table 4 "Exposure cycles with temperature control by black-panel thermometer (BPT)" has been added with exposure cycles corresponding to Table 3; f) in informative Annex A, clause A.1, further explanatory notes concerning CIE85:1989 Table 4 have been included; g) in A.2.2, a NOTE has been added clarifying the preferred transmittance for window glass. International Standard ISO 4892-2 has been prepared by ISO/TC 61/SC 6/WG 2 "Plastics - Ageing, Chemical and Environmental Restistance" (secretariat: DIN, Germany). The committee responsible for the European Standard is CEN/TC 249 "Plastics", the secretariat of which is held by NBN (Belgium). On the national level, the committee responsible for the standard is Working Committee NA 054-01-04 AA "Verhalten gegen Umgebungseinflüsse" of the the Plastics Standards Committee (FNK) at DIN.
