Overview

DIN SPEC 16498 (CEN/TS 14541) specifies terms and definitions and recommended characteristics and test methods for the utilisation of non-virgin PVC-U, PP and PE material in pipes, fittings and ancillaries for both pressure and non-pressure piping systems. It specifies the conditions for utilisation of non-virgin material with or without agreed specification. It is intended to provide manufacturers of pipes, fittings and ancillaries with uniform conditions for the utilisation of non-virgin PVC-U, PP and PE material. DIN SPEC 16498 (CEN/TS 14541) is also intended for developers of relevant product standards. They should strongly consider the content of this document and only permit dosage levels which give compliance with the requirements of the product standard; they should consider whether extra or more frequent product testing is relevant when using such material in the production of pipes and fittings in accordance with the relevant product standard. DIN SPEC 16498 includes in particular aspects of quality and product safety. DIN SPEC 16498 is the German version of Technical Specification CEN/TS 14541 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 155 "Plastics, piping systems and ducting systems" (secretariat: NEN/Netherlands). The committee responsible for DIN SPEC 16498 is Working Committee NA 054-05-02 AA "Prüfverfahren für Rohre" ("Test methods for plastic pipes") at DIN.
