Reinforcement fibres – Determination of cross-sectional area, modulus of elasticity and tensile strength of individual filaments
Abstract
This document specifies test methods for determining the cross-sectional area and the tensile properties (including modulus, tensile force, breaking stress, elongation at break) on individual filament specimens by means of a vibroscopic and a tensile test, preferably on the same section of the filament. The methods are applicable to reinforcement fibres, such as carbon fibres, glass fibres, ceramic fibres, basalt fibres and other inorganic stiff fibres for composite reinforcement applications. This also includes these fibres in their recycled form. The methods are not applicable to textile fibres or elastic fibres.
