DIN EN ISO 683-17
Heat-treated steels, alloy steels and free-cutting steels - Part 17: Ball and roller bearing steels (ISO 683-17:2014); German version EN ISO 683-17:2014

Title (German)

Für eine Wärmebehandlung bestimmte Stähle, legierte Stähle und Automatenstähle - Teil 17: Wälzlagerstähle (ISO 683-17:2014); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 683-17:2014

Overview

Rolling bearings are bearings with two components where the inner ring and the outer ring are moving relative to each other separated by rolling elements. These rolling elements may be balls, barrels, cylinders, cones or needles. A rolling bearing with fixed outer ring is often used with the moving inner ring sitting on a rotating shaft. The bearings may also have a fixed inner ring mounted on an axis such that the moving outer ring is mounted, for example, on a rotating wheel. Depending on its type, the bearing can withstand radial and/or axial forces. Separation between the inner part and the outer part by means of rolling elements substantially reduces friction to the very low rolling friction. The concept of the first edition of DIN EN ISO 683-17:2000 has been maintained, while a number of technical and editorial modifications have been incorporated into the present draft. The technical modifications affect the specifications regarding inspection certificates, microscopic non-metallic inclusions and deliverable surfaces. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 021-00-05-02 UA "Wälzlagerstähle" ("Ball and roller bearing steels") at DIN.
