An idea becomes a sales hit when potential customers have trust in it. Not until then will there be a market for your product or service. Working together with DIN, you can use our deliverable - the "DIN Specification", or DIN SPEC - to create trust and acceptance, while building a network of potential partners and customers. A DIN SPEC can pave the way for your product to the market.

Five reasons to choose DIN SPEC:

  • Networking: The DIN SPEC process requires an exchange of experience with important market participants. This involves networking with key players. As a result, the needs of manufacturer and customer alike are covered by a common specification.
  • Worldwide acceptance: The DIN 'brand' stands for success throughout the world and creates trust. This makes your innovation accepted by users and investors alike.
  • Plug & Play: The DIN SPEC process makes sure innovations are up-to-date with the latest technology. Users thus have no trouble working with your innovation.
  • Easy: DIN organizes the entire DIN SPEC process from beginning to end. This saves you time, letting you concentrate on content and networking with your partners.
  • Fast: DIN SPECs can be developed and published within only a few months.

Standard or Patent? Or both?

Patents and standards and specifications are not mutually exclusive - they are strategic instruments for bringing new ideas to the market.

  • Standards and specifications define common characteristics and specify the relevant requirements In so doing, they open up markets for innovative products that meet these requirements.
  • Patents define unique selling points and help secure a competitive advantage for individual solutions.

These two instruments complement each other perfectly.

Examples

DIN SPEC 91400 - Building Information Modeling (BIM) Show

Published in German and English, this DIN SPEC provides users with an element-based classification and specification system for a component-oriented classification and description system for Building Information Modeling (BIM). This system is suitable for data based on the widely-used German "STLB-Bau" (a database of standardized descriptions of construction work) and compatible with the syntax and semantics of the International Standard ISO 16739 (Industry Foundation Classes, IFC). The aim is to establish a standard classification system for specifying BIM objects such as walls, windows, and other building elements - a catalogue of possible characteristics which will considerably help building planners and architects.

"This new DIN SPEC is like a rail network upon which many different applications can travel“, is how Dr. Klaus Schiller, Managing Director of the companies f:data GmbH and Dr. Schiller und Partner GmbH, describes the advantages of the DIN SPEC.

Apparently, many users are of the same opinion: DIN SPEC 91400 has attracted great interest during presentations attended by building specialists and software developers. Which is no surprise: This specification is the first sector-wide standard that brings together what belongs together in the world of BIM.

DIN SPEC 4885 - Fibre-reinforced plastic composites Show

This specification introduces an innovative new method for testing fibre-reinforced plastics (FRPs). These textiles are widely used in the automotive and aerospace industries, for example. This method has attracted much attention in many industrial sectors.

"The short, uncomplicated DIN SPEC development process makes standardization more attractive for small new businesses. With DIN SPECs it is also possible to transfer a subject for which there is a definite need into a specification, thus making it quickly available to all market participants" says Dr Fabian Grasse, who had also worked on the DIN SPEC.
