Fun and business Regional final of the "Business Schoolgames" at DIN

( 2015-02-23 )  The East Regional Final of this year's BUSINESS SCHOOLGAMES were held in DIN's Berlin offices on 19 February 2015. 75 students from schools in Berlin and Brandenburg participated in the tournament. Team winners in the junior school category were the Freie Oberschule Baruth and for the senior schools, the OSZ Bürowirtschaft I in Berlin. The aim of the BUSINESS SCHOOLGAMES is to introduce business topics to young people in a fun way, encouraging entrepreneurial thinking at an early age. DIN is a sponsor of the Games. In her welcome speech, Astrid Wirges, Member of DIN's Management Board and Head of Human Resources and Legal Affairs for the DIN Group, pointed out that it is also important for DIN that topics relating to business and economics are taught early on in schools, for this will help disseminate information on DIN and standardization. TTIP – New perspectives for German business The annual "Transatlantic Business Forum" gives politicians and industry actors a chance to network

( 2015-02-23 )  What does the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP) mean for the German economy? To better understand the potential impact of the TTIP, this topic was the focus of this year's Transatlantic Business Forum held on 23 February 2015 in Berlin. Hosted by the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) the event was attended by BDI President Ulrich Grillo DIHK President Eric Schweitzer, and 300 experts from industry, politics and civil society, including European Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström, and the German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Sigmar Gabriel. Market access and regulatory cooperation was the subject of a panel discussion in which Dr Torsten Bahke, Chairman of DIN's Executive Board, took part. DIN and SAC agree on closer cooperation 3rd meeting of German-Chinese Working Group on Electromobility

( 2015-02-09 )  The third meeting of the sub-working group on electromobility of the German-Chinese Standardization Cooperation Commission was held in Beijing on the 5th and 6th of February 2015. The meeting addressed current issues and forms of cooperation in areas such as vehicle safety, charging systems and batteries. Discussions focussed on international cooperation and the coordination of mirrored activities at national level, and elicited great interest and an active exchange of ideas among the experts. During the meeting SAC and DIN agreed on cooperation in various technical areas, including a detailed specification of requirements ensuring interoperability between charging stations and vehicles. It was agreed that the next steps to be taken - such as establishing responsibilities and prioritizing subjects - will be decided on during the coming weeks. The agreement also included regular communication between DIN and SAC as regards any changes to their respective standardization systems. More

ASME refers to ISO welding standard ISO 9606-1 on the qualification of welders will also apply in the US

( 2015-02-04 )  For the first time ever, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has referred to an ISO welding standard in its pressure vessel code. The new July 2015 edition of Section IX "Welding and Brazing Qualifications" of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) will refer to ISO 9606-1:2012 "Qualification testing of welders - Fusion welding - Part 1: Steels" in its Appendix ZZZ. It will also cite ISO 14732:2013 on the "Qualification testing of welding operators and weld setters for mechanized and automatic welding of metallic materials". In Germany the latter standard is published as DIN EN ISO 14732. This means that, in terms of the qualification of welders and welding operators, the two ISO Standards can be considered as being equivalent to the ASME Code and thus apply in the US as well.
