Nach 14 Jahren kehrte die ISO/TC 269 Plenary Week „Railway Applications“ erstmals wieder nach Deutschland zurück. Nach der Plenary Week 2025 in Beijing war dieses Jahr der DIN-FSF Gastgeber der stetig wachsenden internationalen Normungs-Community im Bahnsektor.

Mit mehr als 150 Expertinnen und Experten aus über 20 Ländern war die Veranstaltung die bislang größte Plenarwoche des ISO/TC 269. Die hohe internationale Bedeutung des Treffens spiegelte sich auch in der Teilnahme von Vertreter:innen der European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), der European Rail Supply Industry Association (UNIFE), der International Union of Wagon Keepers (UIP) sowie der International Union of Railways (UIC) wider. Besonders erfreulich war zudem die erstmalige Teilnahme der Delegation aus Indonesien, die die zunehmende internationale Reichweite und wachsende globale Relevanz der Normungsarbeit eindrucksvoll unterstrich.

Sitzungen und Highlight der Plenarwoche

Im Mittelpunkt der Woche standen die Sitzungen des ISO/TC 269 und seiner Unterkomitees, in denen aktuelle und zukünftige Normungsprojekte für den Schienenverkehr diskutiert und vorangebracht wurden. Gleichzeitig bot das Rahmenprogramm zahlreiche Gelegenheiten für den fachlichen und persönlichen Austausch.

Ein besonderes Highlight war der Technical Visit im Deutschen Technikmuseum Berlin nach der ISO/TC 269/SC 3 Plenarsitzung. Bei einer Führung durch den historischen Lokschuppen erhielten die Teilnehmenden Einblicke in die Entwicklung der Eisenbahn. Große Aufmerksamkeit zog insbesondere die aufgeschnittene preußische Schnellzugdampflokomotive S 10 auf sich.

Am Donnerstagabend kamen alle Teilnehmenden zum Social Event auf der Dachterrasse des DIN-Gebäudes zusammen. Ehrengast war Arne Herz, Staatssekretär für Mobilität und Verkehr des Landes Berlin. Matthias Patz, Chief Operations Officer von DIN, sprach über den Wandel in der Normungsarbeit. Klaus-Dieter Laue, Geschäftsführer des NWB e. V., hob die Kontinuität der internationalen Expertengemeinschaft hervor.

Abschlusssitzung mit Beiträgen aus Politik, Industrie und Wissenschaft

Als Geschäftsführer des DIN-FSF hieß Herr Dennis Holzhauer die Teilnehmenden am Freitag zur Sitzung des gesamten Technischen Komitees ISO/TC 269 „Railway Applications“ willkommen und begrüßte die Keynote Speaker Stefan Schnorr, Staatssekretär im Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Dr.-Ing. Hiie-Mai Unger, Vorsitzende der Geschäftsführung der DB Systemtechnik, sowie Tim Dawidowsky, Vizepräsident Innovationen beim Verband der Bahnindustrie (VDB). Gemeinsam gaben sie Einblicke in die aktuellen Herausforderungen und Perspektiven des Schienenverkehrs aus Sicht von Politik, Betreiber- und Industrieseite.

Es wurde deutlich, welchen Beitrag die internationale Normung in einem zunehmend komplexen und geopolitisch geprägten Umfeld leistet. Alle drei Keynotes betonten die Bedeutung des Engagements der Expertinnen und Experten aus aller Welt, die durch ihre Mitarbeit die Grundlage für die gemeinsame Weiterentwicklung des internationalen Schienenverkehrs schaffen.

Im Rahmen der 15. Plenarwoche des ISO/TC 269 sowie der Sitzungen des Technischen Komitees und seiner drei Subcommittees wurden sowohl Resolutionen zu aktuellen Normungsvorhaben verabschiedet als auch neue Themen und Projekte in die internationale Normungsarbeit eingebracht. Die wesentlichen Themenschwerpunkte sind nachfolgend zusammengefasst:

ISO/TC 269 Plenary Week "Railway Applications" Returns to Germany After 14 Years

After 14 years, the ISO/TC 269 Plenary Week “Railway Applications” returned to Germany. Following the 2025 Plenary Week in Beijing, this year DIN-FSF hosted the ever-growing international standardization community in the railway sector.

With participation from over 150 experts representing more than 20 countries, the event marked the largest ISO/TC 269 Plenary Week to date. The high international significance of the gathering was reflected in the participation of representatives from the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), the European Rail Supply Industry Association (UNIFE), the International Union of Wagon Keepers (UIP), and the International Union of Railways (UIC). Particularly noteworthy was the first-time attendance of the delegation from Indonesia, which highlighted the expanding international scope and growing global relevance of the standardization efforts.

Meetings and Highlights of the Plenary Week

At the core of the week were the sessions of ISO/TC 269 and its subcommittees, during which current and future standardization projects for the railway sector were discussed and advanced. Additionally, the accompanying program provided numerous opportunities for professional and personal exchange.

A special highlight was the Technical Visit to the German Museum of Technology in Berlin, following the ISO/TC 269/SC 3 plenary meeting. During a guided tour of the historic locomotive roundhouse, participants gained fascinating insights into the history and development of railways. The life-size cross-section of the Prussian express steam locomotive S 10 drew particular attention.

On Thursday evening, all participants gathered for a social event on the rooftop terrace of the DIN building. Guest of honor Arne Herz, Berlin State Secretary for Mobility and Transportation, attended the event. Matthias Patz, Chief Operations Officer of DIN, spoke about the ongoing transformation in standardization work. Klaus-Dieter Laue, Managing Director of NWB e. V., emphasized the continuity and dedication of the international expert community.

Closing Session With Contributions From Politics, Industry, and Science

On Friday, Mr. Dennis Holzhauer, Managing Director of DIN-FSF, welcomed the participants to the full committee meeting of ISO/TC 269 “Railway Applications.” He also introduced the keynote speakers: Stefan Schnorr, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Transport, Dr.-Ing. Hiie-Mai Unger, Chair of the Management Board of DB Systemtechnik, and Tim Dawidowsky, Vice President for Innovation at the German Railway Industry Association (VDB). Together, they provided insights into the current challenges and perspectives of the railway sector from the viewpoints of politics, operators, and industry.

The keynotes highlighted the critical role of international standardization in an increasingly complex and politically influenced environment. All three speakers emphasized the importance of the dedication and contributions of experts from around the world, who lay the foundation for the ongoing development of international railway systems through their work.

During the 15th Plenary Week of ISO/TC 269, as well as in the meetings of the Technical Committee and its three subcommittees, resolutions on ongoing standardization projects were adopted, and new topics and projects were introduced into the international standardization process.
